BeleniX 0.6 has finally arrived. The latest iteration of this “live CD” OpenSolaris distribution hits the Web just about six months after 0.5.1 was released. This release includes several improvements, including a bundled Nvidia 3D accelerated driver and desktop effects.

Based on OpenSolaris Build 60, this version includes Full Modular Xorg 7.2 and the Compiz 0.5.0 3D Manager (which works only with Nvidia cards).

Usbdump has been integrated into the LiveCD, to make it easier to put Belenix on a portable storage device. All you have to do to get BeleniX onto your thumb drive is to boot from the CD, insert your USB stick, and then execute usbdump from the terminal.

Other enhancements include updates to various bundled software components, 3000 OpenSolaris manpages, Ksh93 bundled in, some FireFox tweaks and plugins, and various fixes/clean-ups.
