MySQL chief executive Marten Mickos risked community ire Wednesday by urging organizations to be wary of hidden intellectual property (IP) and patents in open source.
Mickos warned it is “likely” that patented code would find its way into the code bases of open source products they use thanks to the community-based development process of open source. He predicted that those companies providing open source software would come to offer indemnification in IP legal actions, once the companies begin to make more money.
