Brazil’s Gil shares views with Cal audience

The use of technology and the Internet has been at the top of Gil’s agenda at the culture ministry, he said.

Gil has supported limited sharing of music and other cultural property, including his own songs, despite media corporations’ efforts to enforce copyright laws.

At the same time, the Brazilian government has championed the official use of open-source software such as the Linux operating system instead of paying costly licensing fees for protected software.
