Celtx – Digital Pre-Production for Video and Film

39
Greyfirst Corp. released a new version of Celtx; the
digital pre-production software used to create Video, Film and TV content.Celtx
is a
unique and innovative application that for
the first time enables people engaged in the pre-production of a video,
film
and TV project to work in a digital environment – write
scripts,
perform
breakdowns and collaborate with others. Built on top of the award
winning
Firefox technologies, Celtx
is
an open source and open standards
software application that has rapidly established an international
following,
with thousands of dedicated users located in over 50 countries around
the
globe.

 “We’ve
been busy all summer working on
the next release of Celtx. We hope it shows!” Co-Founder
Mark
Kennedy stated.
“We’ve paid close attention to our community of
users,
adding only what was
asked for, including a vastly improved editor and file management
features.
We’ve also added a new database view to help people organize
their film and
video related media.”

 Some
of the new features in this
version include:

Keep
your fingers where they’re supposed
to be!

A new, and much improved editor that provides a
WYSIWYG
experience has been added. The editor now supports things like page
breaks, bold-italics-underlining,
plain and formatted text editing and right click contextual
‘cut-copy-paste’.

 Suspenders
and a Belt

In
response to the many requests… users
will be now able
to save their Celtx projects to a location of their own choosing. Users
still
have the ability to do remote back-ups to the Celtx server, but can now
also
save their projects to any location using standard file save
dialogue.

Celtx
has a Database?

Breakdown
information, including any text and
media
mark-ups, are now displayed inside a database view where the
information can be
“sliced and diced” by the user, allowing the project data to be
organized by purpose.

Everyone
is Invited to the Party

Celtx
now includes every breakdown category. We
have also
tweaked the colour plan to match the industry norm.

Scene
by Scene Navigator

The
new left hand Scene Navigator, which now
includes
scene descriptions, has new icon driven ‘move scene
up/down’ and ‘delete scene’
options. Double click behavior has been added.

New
Face to the World

In
addition to all of the above, we’ve
also made several
improvements to the Celtx GUI, including ‘drag
enabled’
splitters between
column elements in the download project dialog, better layout of the
editor
toolbar icons, and a smaller ‘icon/text’ option for
the
project toolbar.

 Celtx
core features
include:

  • Writing,
importing, editing and publishing scripts using standard industry
    formatting
  • Support
    for adding media – including
sound files, video clips and digital pictures
  • Powerful
collaboration features, allowing team members to work together over the
    Internet
  • Adherence
    to open standards, ensuring
users have unfettered access to their data

 The
Technology

Celtx
is built using Firefox’s XUL Mozilla
application
framework and runs “inside” the Mozilla Firefox
browser.
Celtx works on all
major operating systems – Mac, Linux and Windows. The application uses
a
semantic web compliant RDF database and XML file formatting.

Availability

Celtx
is available for download
from the Celtx

free, under an open source license.
