The CherryPal is what happens when you combine a highly customized, incredibly efficient platform with cloud computing. It is a $249 small form-factor desktop that is aimed at low-demand PC users and relies on a cloud services for most of its tasks. Unlike previous systems using this approach there is no subscription fee. The OS is based on Debian Linux, but most people would never know this because it is hidden from the user and instead almost everything is done through the browser, a customized version of Firefox. To get down to just two watts CherryPal uses a FreeScale processor which doesn’t offer much power, but given the dedicated software and its reliance on the cloud it should be more than enough.
