Carlos writes “The Chilean government has announced the “My First PC” program to bring unexpensive computers to people with fewer resources, in a partnership with Microsoft and computer retailers.
However, careful analysis of the program demonstrated the harware not to be any cheaper that what’s already out there, and Microsoft’s efforts to push their XP Starter Edition OS was objected by the Chilean blogging community, which has mounted an online campaign
called “My First PC… for Real!”to ask the government to rethink the program to include more accesible prices, better financing and, of course… Open Source software.”
