China’s Ministry of Railways has chosen Linux to centralise its package delivery operations.

The department has signed a deal with Turbolinux to provide the Linux operating system and related applications, including the company’s TurboHA high-availability server support application, which was developed by Turbolinux in China.

The system will process 95% of the freight volume handled by the railways, which totals approximately 200 million parcels each year. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
