Chip companies hit hard by economic woes

Kelly McNeill writes: “Global semiconductor sales turned in another gloomy month in August. The already beleaguered market became so bad that two Japanese computer chip companies last week joined others in the industry by idling factories. Even so, an industry association says it believes manufacturers have largely worked through bloated inventories plaguing them in the past year.”
