Slashdot’s Jon Katz opines on N2H2’s sale of aggregate surfing statistics and other information gathered from its Bess filtering program, one of the most popular Internet filters used in grade schools and high schools in the United States. One of N2H2’s first customers was the United States Department of Defense. The collection and sale of such data from minors is sanctioned by the Children’s Internet Protection Act passed last year by Congress, and, says Katz, we should expect more of the same legislation soon.
