The coding compromise: open objects

Author: JT Smith

Kelly McNeill writes "Open Objects. The idea came to me after trying to install a device driver for my LinModem, a WinModem on Linux. The makers of LinModem decided to provide Linux device drivers for their product, but did not want to lose proprietary rights to their device driver source code. The obvious solution was to provide a fully functional module that could be loaded into the kernel. Yet, they didn't do that. Instead, they came up a far better solution."
