Upside reviews recent news about the 2.4 kernel release: “Although companies have been free to modify and adapt early
versions of the kernel, Red Hat (RHAT), Compaq (CPQ) and VA
Linux (LNUX), among others, have been chomping at the bit to
incorporate the new kernel in product upgrades. One of the key
features of the new kernel is enhanced symmetric multiprocessing, or
SMP, support, something which would make the GNU/Linux operating
system more competitive on larger, multiple-processor machines.” (VA Linux owns NewsForge.)
