Compaq announces tri-band iPaq mobile, voice services

From IDG: “Compaq is developing a tri-band GSM (global system
for mobile communications) / GPRS (general packet
radio service) device, which is in development and is
expected to begin carrier trials soon, allowing
customers to browse the Web, send e-mail, send and
receive voice calls in Europe and North America,
Compaq said in a statement. The service is expected
to be available later this year. Compaq declined to
discuss details, but confirmed that current iPaq users
will be able to use the technology.”
