Compaq throws axe into sea

The Inquirer: “A disillusioned soul at the Big Q has sent us the June 12th memo of CEO Mike
Capellas which, he says, promises the structure of his firm will alter so radically that it won’t
resemble anything like the Compaq of one year ago, never mind five.

Capellas has given himself a deadline of 180 days and set aside some money for
acquisitions, as well as repositioning Q as a solutions and services company. We expect
getting rid of the Alpha platform (see separate story) is part of that “up drawbridge” mentality.
Mike C won’t use 10 words where 3,390 will do, so do sit down before you start to read on.”
