Jorg Janke writes “Compiere Partners Complete Quality Testing on New Compiere ERP & CRM Open Source Software Application.

Compiere version 2.5.2c provides a cost-effective, reliable ERP & CRM application for small- to mid-sized businesses throughout the world

MONROE, CT, MAY 2, 2005, Compiere, Inc., the premier provider of open source business software applications, today announced the release of Compiere ERP & CRM system, version 2.5.2c, with enhanced functionality and stability. The new version of the software features improved request functionality (issue tracking), batch (expense) invoice entry, and improved security management. This is in addition to the new costing infrastructure for the support of LiFo, FiFo, and Average costing.

With over 800,000+ downloads of its ERP and CRM systems throughout the world, Compiere is the premier Open Source business application. Compiere provides a fully integrated, adaptable ERP and CRM application for small to medium-sized enterprises. The Compiere software application is primarily used in wholesale, distribution, retail, and service environments, but is also quickly building a strong user base in other industries.

The new version of the software recently completed extensive quality assurance evaluations and testing involving many of Compiere’s 50+ worldwide partners.

ComPiere’s President and Project Lead Jorg Janke said, “As Compiere’s functionality has increased, we needed a coordinated effort to maintain quality and reliability. The process of having partners who are intimately familiar with Compiere’s software as well as the business practices of our end users, performing the quality assurance testing, combined with the sound underlying architecture of the software, helps Compiere offer a level of stability which most competing proprietary ERP and CRM products fail to match.â€

Janke said, “The extensive, but unstructured testing by the general Compiere community provides a good basis for ensuring reliability. But, the backbone of our quality is the pre-release testing by our Certified Partners. For this 2.5.2c version release, our partners committed about 40 people for the one week testing period.”

e-Evolution of Mexico (http://www.e-evolution.com.mx) was a major contributor of the quality assurance process for Compiere version 2.5.2c. Victor Perez, President of e-Evolution said, “The coordinated test effort allows us to roll out Compiere to our customers faster. We had all of our consultants conducting evaluations and testing to ensure that Compiere works for us and for our customers in Latin America and Spain.”

Testing an ERP application is not easy since there are so many different options and scenarios to consider. Compiere’s support and quality assurance manager, Kathy Pink, said, “Our automated tests make sure that the ‘engines’ work, but there is no alternative to hands-on testing an ERP application with the very different real world scenarios.â€

Another participant in the quality assurance process, Adaxa Pty Ltd of Australia (http://www.adaxa.com.au) was named the contributor of the year at Compiere’s recent Partner Conference. Jorg Janke said, “Adaxa helped us significantly to get the requirements right. Their knowledge and experience in ERP helped us to make the right decisions.”

Martin Fuggle, Managing Director of Adaxa, said, “We, and the users we support, often try to utilize or extend Compiere in ways that the designers had not anticipated. The fast response of the developers to rapidly implement changes arising from these needs and to make them available to users demonstrates the great underlying power of the Compiere architecture and the benefits of the open source development model. The quality assurance efforts of the Compiere Partners has added an extra layer of reliability to this rapid development and release cycle.â€
