A key Linux operating system vendor (OSV) has confirmed it supplied Moblin technology to netbook pioneer Asus for a “soon-to-be-released model” of the Eee PC. Xandros described working with Asus on the product at a Moblin Roadshow event yesterday in Taipei, Taiwan.

Xandros has long supplied Linux to Asus, which has offered Xandros Linux on netbooks since the earliest models of its Eee line. The Eee (Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play) line is generally regarded as the first product to have shipped in the netbook category.

The Roadshow presentation was delivered by Pascal Lauria, VP of sales and marketing for Xandros in the EMEA and APAC regions. Therein, Lauria described working with Asus to create “the first dual-mode OS based on custom Moblin,” according to Xandros.

Xandros could not be reached by press time, but we hope to learn more in the days ahead.

Meanwhile, the full text of Xandros’s press release about the session is available here. More details may also be available on the Xandros website, here.
