Intel® Communications Alliance Summit 2004 (San Francisco, CA) â September 9, 2004 â Continuous Computing®, the leading supplier of high availability Network Service-Ready Platform⢠solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, and MontaVista Software today announced a formal OEM relationship agreement between the two companies which will enable the delivery of Continuous Computingâs products pre-installed with MontaVista® Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE). Continuous Computing now has the ability to provide AdvancedTCA and Flex21⢠CompactPCI blades as well as complete Network Service-Ready Platforms (NSRPs) pre-loaded with MontaVista Linux.
NSRPs consist of pre-integrated, pre-tested combinations of hardware, Trillium® protocol stack software, upSuite® High Availability (HA) middleware, and a reliable operating system such as CGE. CGE is an advanced Linux-based development platform engineered specifically for the robust and highly available requirements of carrier grade applications. NSRPs enable telecom equipment manufacturers to quickly integrate and deliver applications for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and 3G Wireless networks. The primary advantages of NSRPs are accelerated time to market, increased return on investment, and the freedom to focus solely on application development.
âNetwork Service-Ready Platforms are an excellent choice for telecom equipment manufacturers seeking to deploy new VoIP and 3G Wireless applications quickly and affordably,â said Simon Waters, Continuous Computingâs Vice President of Business Development. âBy pre-integrating MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition into the platform, we lower the project risk and simplify the overall product development effort. The result is that telecom equipment manufacturers can get to market much faster and with reduced complexity.â
âWe are delighted to be working closely with Continuous Computing in order to deliver carrier-grade, integrated platform solutions to telecom equipment manufacturers,â commented Scott Jaffe, Vice President, Business Development, MontaVista Software. âMontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition has been shown to address telecom availability needs in compliance with Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) and Service Availability (SA) Forum feature requirements, which are important benchmarks for Tier 1 customers.â
Todayâs announcement complements Continuous Computingâs news on Tuesday, September 7, that its popular upSuite HA middleware program has been ported to the Linux operating system to support easy deployment of mission-critical telecom infrastructure and enterprise networking applications. upSuite HA for Linux has been optimized for modular communications platforms using Intel Xeon⢠and Pentium® processors on AdvancedTCA, CompactPCI, and rackmount server form factors. MontaVista Software and Continuous Computing are both Associate members of the Intel Communications Alliance and provide products optimized on Intel Architecture.
