cdlu writes “The Debian Conference Team is pleased to announce the chosen
date for the 2007 Debian Conference. This year’s DebConf event will be
held from 17 June – 23 June 2007 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Immediately
preceding the conference week on 16 June will be DebianDay.

Debian is a free operating system for computers. Written for up to 14
computer architectures and translated into 27 languages, Debian is one of
the most universal free operating systems in existance. Developers from all
over the world volunteer their time to create and maintain Debian software.

DebConf is the Debian Project’s developer conference. In addition to a full
schedule of technical, social and policy talks, DebConf provides an
opportunity for developers, contributors and other interested people to meet
in person and work together more closely. Previous DebConfs have been held in:
Bordeaux, France; Oslo, Norway; Toronto, Canada; Porto Alegre, Brazil;
Helsinki, Finland; and Oaxtapec, Mexico. The DebConf Organizing committee is
pleased to find hosting facilities in Edinburgh, Scotland for this annual
event.

“We hope this will be the best DebConf yet,” said Moray Allan, Edinburgh
DebConf coordinator. “Edinburgh is a beautiful city, and the conference venue
is right in the centre, within the World Heritage site, close to the medieval
Royal Mile and the Castle. The streets around the venue are full of excellent
restaurants and pubs, and there are several large parks within a few minutes’
walk.”

DebianDay will be held on 16 June 2007. DebianDay is a short conference aimed
at Debian users and those interested in learning more about free software.
Experts will be on-hand to answer questions, give advice and tips and help
promote free software for individual people. All are welcome to attend;
attendance is free and open to the public, but the DebConf team asks for
interested persons to register to ensure enough experts are on-hand.
Registration for DebianDay can be found at:

Sponsorship is always a welcome fuel for Debian Conference events.
Sponsorship helps bring and provide for Debian Developers from all over the
world; it pays for conference halls in which talks, discussions and
productivity can take place; it ensures productive time to work on the
Debian Operating System while developing a rich community spirit to
encourage continued growth. DebConf cannot happen without support from its
sponsors, and as always, the DebConf team shows its gratitude for sponsors
by proudly and publically displaying those sponsor logos on shirts,
brochures and posters. For more information on how to sponsor DebConf,
please contact sponsors@debconf.org.

We look foward to sharing this event with everyone. For further information
about Debian, please visit Debian’s website at http://www.debian.org./ More
