Donations Funding Open Souce Projects

RichCoder writes “SourceSupport.org has been collecting donations from people hoping for software projects to be taken up by any developer willing to do the work in trade for the accumulated funds. This seems to be a novel way to both sponsor open source development and get much needed software developed. Could this be what is needed to make open source development pay off?”
