Double the horsepower of your hard drive

Fonze writes “I remember way back in the early 80’s when the Chevy 305 replaced the big blocks and turbos as the performance engine for the F-body (Camaro/Firebird). One of the hot stories back then was “Double the horsepower of your 305”. I know a (former) Caprice owner who used the tips in the story.

It looks like, with a bit of tinkering, that you can now do the same with your hard drive.

A couple of examples: Western Digital 200 GB SATA > 500 GB post tinkering. IBM Deathstar 80 GB EIDE > 150 GB post tinkering. And more.

I wouldn’t try it on production drives. Anyone with a FOSS solution?”
