Daniel Morris writes “SAN JOSE, USA — April 7, 2006 — eCosCentric Limited, the eCos and RedBoot experts, today announced the addition of CAN driver support for eCosPro. The eCosPro-CAN package initially targets the Philips Semiconductors’ SJA1000, on-chip CAN controllers found in Philips Semiconductors’ popular LPC2000 ARM7 family and FlexCAN modules found in Freescale Semiconductor’s range of ColdFire and PowerPC processors.

“The widespread use of CAN bus in industrial control and modern vehicles has created a demand for CAN support within real time operating systems” said Alex Schuilenburg, Managing Director & CEO at eCosCentric. “With the addition of CAN support to eCosPro, our customers have a shorter time to market with all the benefits that a commercial RTOS provides but without the higher costs associated with traditional license-fee or royalty based operating systems”.

In keeping with the elegant eCos design, eCosPro-CAN is configurable, allowing system architects and developers to make optimal use of limited target memory. eCosPro-CAN provides a coherent application programming interface for developers to access devices attached to the CAN network, supporting hardware filtering and baud rates from 10kb/s to 10Mb/s. Details of the underlying hardware are encapsulated within a device specific layer. The eCosPro-CAN drivers provide BasicCAN operation and are provided under the terms of the eCosPro license.
