False Gloablism : Protection Rackets

Chuck Talk writes “According to Sara Yirell of Computer Reseller News, Microsoft has filed suit against a VAR in the United Kingdom market for selling what it is calling “parallel import” software. What this actually means is that the company being sued has taken the business-wise step of importing software made in a different global market due to the lower cost. Ms. Yirell apparently received a leaked High Court document that showed that Microsoft has started proceedings to sue Value Added Reseller ITAC (UK) Ltd., as they were importing software from the Middle East, not software Microsoft claims was developed for the United Kingdom. Microsoft apparently feels that the importation of software at a lower cost point form a different market is a breach of trademark and copyright issue, from the statement attributed to their spokesperson.”
