Five IE Vulnerabilities Could Mean System Takeover: Chinese Researcher

Five “serious vulnerabilities” in Microsoft Internet Explorer could mean an exploit provoking a system takeover, according to a Chinese
researcher who says that takeover could mean exposing sensitive information, cross-site scripting, and security bypasses.

Liu Die Yu’s detailing of the five new flaws – said to affect IE 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 – has been taken seriously enough for independent security
consultants like Secunia to rate them “extremely critical,” according to InternetNews.com, which says the flaws tie to a redirection feature known as
the URI handler.
