Just Got Better --
Community Edition Now Includes Advanced Enterprise Functionality for 25 Users in Addition to Unlimited Community Users
San Mateo, CA -- November 15, 2005 -- Scalix, the leading provider of new generation email and calendaring on Linux, today introduced an enhanced version of Scalix Community Edition, the free, unlimited use version of its award winning software. The new version raises the number of users with access to advanced enterprise functionality from 5 to 25 users, making it more appealing and cost effective for small businesses.
"The popularity of Community Edition since its introduction three months ago has exceeded our expectations and has gained a loyal following,” said Julie Farris, Scalix founder and chief strategy officer. "We expect that the advanced functionality being offered in this new version will attract an even broader audience and help accelerate the growth of the Linux email market.”
The 25 free advanced users gain access to rich functionality including full-function Outlook support and group scheduling with free/busy lookup. Community Edition will continue to support an unlimited number of basic users that can use any POP/IMAP client or use Scalix Web Access (SWA) for email and personal calendaring. Built using AJAX, the highly-acclaimed SWA is one of the most advanced AJAX Web 2.0 clients in the market today. SWA provides the look and feel, snappy responsiveness and rich functionality currently found only in desktop email clients.
SWA is cross-browser and cross-platform, supporting Internet Explorer, Firefox and Mozilla running on Windows, Linux, Macintosh, Unix.
Community Edition also benefits larger organizations as they can freely deploy state-of-the-art email and personal calendaring to all users, inside and outside their organization, including partners, suppliers and contractors, on an unlimited basis, free of charge.
Since its launch in August, 2005, Community Edition has been met with enthusiastic response, with over 6,000 server downloads. This has resulted in a broad community of enthusiastic users, many of whom actively participate in the Scalix Community Forum (http://www.scalix.com/support/communityforums.htm l) where users get answers to questions as well as access to an extensive knowledgebase. For organizations who want commercial technical support, Scalix offers fee-based incident support as well as 24x7 premium support.
Community Edition is easily upgradeable to Scalix Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition includes added functionality including multi-server support, public folders, full Exchange interoperability, advanced wireless email and PIM, and automated migration tools. Community Edition won the Best Messaging Solution award at its LinuxWorld August debut. The new version is immediately downloadable on the Scalix web site at http://www.scalix.com/products/communityedition.ht ml.
