Anonymous Reader writes “Geekinformed is running a story about a major setback for the DVD industry. A French court overturned a lower courts ruling, making copy prevention technology illegal on DVD’s and CD’s. This means that as much as 80% of the industries products on the French market cannot be sold.

“Stores will probably not have to send back products already in stock, but in the future, no DVD or CD that has the device can be sold.” said Julien Dourgnon, spokesman for consumer advocacy group UFC-Que Choisir, which brought the case.

This looks like a clear victory for the consumer. It’s too bad I can’t see this happening in the US.”
