Gateway turning off Net appliances?

ZDNet News reports that Gateway is reconsidering its entry into the Internet appliance market. This may include the cancellation of the company’s proposed Web tablet, a wireless touch pad device. Gateway’s consumer division heads now believe “that most standalone Internet appliances are overpriced and underpowered,” and have decided that their market value at this time is “questionable.” While not mentioned within this report, the tablet and other proposed Gateway devices were built to run on embedded versions of Linux.
