Getting Linux onto the corporate network
Author: JT Smith
Kelly McNeill writes: "When a problem crops up and no solution is offered, one tactic -- though dangerous if your boss doesn't like unauthorized servers -- is to go ahead and use Linux to solve it. Recently, I started preliminary work on the project of "upgrading" all our old Windows boxes (200-odd machines running 3.1 and various Win9x flavors) to Windows 2000. As an intellectual exercise, I asked myself, "Could we dump Windows altogether and move straight over to Linux?" which led to another question: "How does one introduce Linux into a Microsoft-dominated network?"
