The Golden Penguin Bowl at LinuxWorld (underground video)

San Francisco (Humor) — The Golden Penguin Bowl is a perennial LinuxWorld event frequented by inner-circle types and shunned by the humorless. The format is simple: two teams, the Geeks and the Nerds, answer a series of not-serious technical and movie/TV trivia questions and possibly engage in other feats of derring-do, such as a robot face-off. One team wins, the other team loses. The fans rarely riot, but you never know.

Many reporters have written about the Golden Penguin Bowl, but aside from the Official Video Guy, who is on a riser in the back of the room and comparatively safe from the crowd, hardly anyone has had the guts to smuggle in a handheld video camera and get “up close and personal” footage of costumed host Jeremy Allison, the two teams, and the three hard-hearted judges.

And if we get large enough bribes from the participants, it may be a last for us, too. Yes, we mean you, Geeks. Note that we did not include the footage of you doing the Ballmer “Monkey Dance,” but we have it down in our vaults, in the rack marked “embarrassing videos,” in its full, original high-definition glory, just in case….
