Greg Estes of SGI: “We are under attack”

Anon1 writes: “The VP of marketing at SGI says that while SGI still maintains a lot of their 3D animators and other Hollywood customers, they are under attack by IBM, HP and other companies selling Linux with ‘commodity hardware’ that get closer to SGI’s hardware offerings. However, Estes says that IRIX can do things that the Linux kernel doesn’t support yet, like scaling up to 1024 CPUs, or having kernel support for advanced XFS features.”
