HDTV: An Overview

When you watch a DVD on a regular TV, what happens is that the digital signals of your disc get converted to analog (read loss of quality), so that your TV can convert them and display them correctly. Since the original signal was digital, the picture looks amazing next to say the old cable TV or indeed a tape but it would look better still if your TV could comprehend digital signals directly as conversion to analog always leads to loss of picture information and hence quality.”
