The apparently routine task of putting up a corporate Web site hides
a number of dangerous pitfalls. While the threat of intrusion through
security holes in server software is widely discussed, little thought
is given to the issue of confidential data being publicly available
on the World Wide web. Trivial as it may seem, it is all the more
dangerous for the complacency with which it is generally ignored. In
this article, I will describe how private data may become publicly
available, how it is exploited by hackers, and how to prevent such
security weaknesses on your Web site.
