Kelly McNeill writes, “Motorola has said that it will sell or float its semiconductor division that creates PowerPC chips if it does not show significantly increased profits within a set — as yet undisclosed — time period, according to published reports. Although some observers suggest that Motorola may instead choose to spin-off the semiconductor unit and possibly even establish an IPO for the division, others speculate that a third-party buyout is more likely. The semiconductor industry is already on schedule to explode with exciting next-generation offerings from each of the major players, and Motorola’s announcement only adds to this drama.” The column is at osOpinion.
