Eric writes “IBM and Dell, worldwide leaders in the business-end market, reported that they will release new servers based on Intel’s recently released 64-bit Xeon microprocessors. Intel’s Xeon processors are low-end compared to the chip maker’s high-end 64-bit Itanium line. As the Xeon processors are affordable and more productive, many enterprise consumers tend to prefer these chips.
Dell’s servers will come with dual 64-bit Xeon processors and a choice of pre-installed version of either Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Red Hat Linux 3. The prices will start at $1,799 and $1,899, respectively.”
