CNET News.com writes “Contract to create a single-sign-on network for France Telecom is the ID management spec’s biggest win.”

The deal represents is the largest adoption of an identity management system based on the Liberty Alliance specification, the company said. The Liberty Alliance is a consortium of more than 150 organizations devoted to creating specifications that allow people to sign on to multiple networks by entering user information–such as name and password–only once.

While Big Blue is not a member of the Liberty Alliance, the deal shows that the organization’s identity specification is gaining ground among e-commerce providers, because France Telecom required that Big Blue comply with the group’s latest specification.
