Anonymous Reader writes “IBM and Honda have teamed-up and developed a hands-free and natural sounding in-vehicle speech recognization system.

This system will be integrated in Honda’s Acura RL 2005 model and will be offered as an optional accessory in Honda Odyssey 2005 model.

“Using IBM’s Embedded ViaVoice software, the in-car navigation system can recognize spoken street and city names across the continental U.S. ViaVoice takes the verbal string of numbers, digitizes the string and turns it into bits of information that are then transmitted to the application,” said Alistair Rennie, Vice President, Sales, IBM Pervasive Computing Division.
