IBM: Linux cheaper in the long-term

[Johannesburg, 14 November 2003] – The answer to the “which is cheaper – Linux or Windows” question can’t be found by comparing bodies of vendor-funded research. It lies in the job that you need Linux to do.

So said Richard Voaden, IBM manager Linux sales for the UK, SA, Ireland and the Netherlands, on a visit to SA in October to keep existing and potential customers up to date on the role Linux is playing in the e-business on demand environment.

“You have to take a broad view of your business requirements and how Linux will impact them over a three- to four-year period. From that perspective, I’d be surprised if you didn’t come out cheaper on Linux.”
