Installing XFree86 4.0.1 on Debian 2.2 (Potato)

DebianPlanet has a how-to article: “I really wanted to install XFree86 4.0.1 on my Debian machine at work. The problem was that there were packages for Debian 2.3 only – which is
unstable – and I am running stable distribution. So the option to upgrade to Debian 2.3 was out of the question. Then I learned that there are
XFree86 4.0.1 (from now on XF4) packages for Debian 2.2 available (someone on IRC pointed it out to me on #debian; IRC is pretty cool ;).
These packages are unofficial but were compiled using the XF4.0.1 phase-2 source packages for XF4 in unstable distribution as built by Charl P.
Botha, which are good enough for me.”
