ISPs reluctant to offer relief for dial-up users

If your service provider hasn’t yet upgraded its modem pool to the official ITU v.92 standard, don’t hold your breath waiting for it to happen. So says Network World Fusion, reporting that the largest ISPs in the U.S., including C&W, Earthlink, and UUNet, have no plans to enhance their dial-up networks with v.92, mostly because of the financial situation at those companies. Users of Sprint, AT&T, and Genuity will eventually enjoy v.92, and NaviPath has the distinction of being the only large-scale provider in the U.S. that has upgraded its entire network to support the new standard.
