If I had the cash, I might think about going long in WebMethods’ stock at the current price; but I’d have to think hard about it and be willing to part with the money for a long time. WebMethods was discussed in this column on June 14, 2004; the stock had closed the previous trading day at $8.29 and had traded around 420,000 shares. In that column, I wasn’t particularly optimistic for the company’s long-term outlook. Going short (or not being long) was the right thing to do.
