Japan seeks new OS [ or anything but Microsoft ] for networked home appliances

NZheretic writes “The Japanese Consumer electronics makers and the government are teaming up to make sure the coming generation of Internet-connected home appliances will not depend on Microsoft Corp. for an operating system.
In working out the standards they plan to adopt for networked appliances by 2007, manufacturers and the industry ministry plan to make use of either Linux or the domestically developed TRON operating system.”
