Douglas Paterson writes “A new book on ImageMagick, the popular software suite used to create, edit, compose and display bitmap images has been announced today by Packt. In an added move designed to help support ImageMagick, Packt is paying a percentage of all book sales directly to the project.

An open source project backed by years of continual development, ImageMagick supports over 95 image formats and is becoming an increasingly popular way for generating images on-the-fly in web pages. Whether generating thumbnails from a large image or creating complex combinations of images, text, and effects chosen by a visitor or the website’s creator, ImageMagick is an ideal solution.

ImageMagick Tricks is a fast paced and practical tutorial, packed with interesting and fun examples of photo manipulations, logo creation, animations, and complete web projects. Whether ImageMagick is used to manage family photos or to embark on a job involving millions of images, this book will provide readers with the knowledge to manage images with ease.

ImageMagick is free software, which means that it survives through volunteers and donations from an enthusiastic community. In a move designed to demonstrate their support and to help provide a sustainable source of revenue for the project, Packt is paying ImageMagick a percentage of every book sold. “This is something we do for all open source projects that we publish books on” explains Packt spokesman Damian Carvill. Carvill goes on to state that Packt’s aim is to “establish publishing royalties as an essential part of the service and support business model that sustains Open Source.”

ImageMagick Tricks will be published in June, for more information, please visit www.PacktPub.com/imagemagick/book
