leading innovator in embedded systems, real-time and high availability
solutions, and Metrowerks, makers of CodeWarrior, the best selling
Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for Linux, today announced the
shipment of the CodeWarrior for Embedix Development System for the
PowerQUICC II MPC8260.
The collaborative effort between Lineo and Metrowerks provides
with the leading embedded Linux software development kit (Embedix 1.2)
the best selling IDE (CodeWarrior) combined with the Motorola MPC8260
development board. The system provides developers with a ready-to-run
solution to speed time to market for embedded devices that incorporate
MPC8260 and is being shown this week at the Embedded Systems Conference
(Lineo booth #1734, Metrowerks booth #1902).
The PowerQUICC II MPC8260 is a popular development board that is
used in devices for Internet infrastructure, telecommunications and
networking markets. Lineo and Metrowerks also have work under way to
nearly a dozen other such development systems for other Motorola
boards. The development systems provide developers with an advantage
they come pre-configured with such things as pre-flashed memory so less
is spent on assembling the development environment and more time can be
on creating applications.
"The CodeWarrior for Embedix Development System is evidence of how
Metrowerks are making it easier for the developer," said Tim Bird,
Technology Officer, Lineo, Inc. "Developers are interested in saving
using the best tools available and increasing their speed to market
embedded devices-we're providing all of that today with this product."
The all-inclusive development system contains one MPC8260 processor
pre-programmed with CodeWarrior for Embedix, the Embedix SDK and Target
Wizard, which helps to automate the development process. Using this
developers can create applications on a Windows or Linux host platform.
"Metrowerks and Lineo are both dedicated to helping embedded developers
simplify the development process," said John Smolucha, vice president
marketing, Metrowerks. "Together, we're able to provide them with a
comprehensive package of hardware and software tools that will help
speed time to market while reducing cost and enabling flexibility."
The CodeWarrior IDE provides intuitive, graphics-based tools that allow
developers to create, compile and debug their applications from a
environment, shortening the development cycle and helping them reach
