Linux backers are solid; United's hand out again

When you're dukin' it out with Microsoft, a little solidarity can go a long way. At least that's the approach Linux-backers are taking by agreeing on a standard version.

The agreement is aimed at preventing Linux from splintering into competing versions, which happened years ago with the Unix operating system.
