A new report from IDC has confirmed the expectations of the Open Source Development Labs, the global consortium with the goal of accelerating the adoption of Linux.

Bill Weinberg, open source architecture specialist at the OSDL, said the IDC study is the first independent study of its kind on the Linux market. According to that study, the Linux market for desktops, servers and packaged software is expected to be worth $38 billion (U.S.) in revenue by 2008. Within the desktop PC market alone, revenue is expected to reach $10 billion (U.S.) by 2008.
