ZDNET.co.uk: “In a move that could further blur the line between television and computing, broadcasting industry
leaders have formed the TV Linux Alliance to define a

standardised Linux environment for digital set-top boxes. The aim is to speed up development and
deployment of software and to reduce development costs. Some

analysts say it is a major blow to
Microsoft’s hopes of establishing itself
in this market.

The alliance will define a standard
application programming interface (API)
to simplify the implementation of TV
middleware and device drivers for
Linux.”
