New EDIROL RG-100 Provides 3D Graphics and Images for Indoor and Outdoor Display.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 6, 2004 – MontaVista Software Inc. today announced that the Roland Corporation (TSE: 6789) and Roland ED Corporation have selected MontaVista(r) Linux(r) Professional Edition as the operating system for its new real-time graphics presenter, the EDIROL RG-100. The EDIROL RG-100 creates 3D graphics and presents high-resolution images for signs and advertisements on large-scale displays (plasma or projected) at retail shops, amusement parks, commercial showrooms and other inside or outside facilities.

“We chose MontaVista Linux for its excellent robustness and scalability. This versatile development platform also offers us a wide array of middleware choices so we can deliver multiple functions on a single platform,” said Mr. Akira Matsui, executive director, manager of Product Development Department of Roland ED Corporation, which is one of the affiliated companies of Roland Corporation and developed RG-100. “Using MontaVista Linux as the development environment for Roland’s new graphics presenter helps us provide easy operation and the best user experience for our customers.”

EDIROL RG-100 is the most advanced all-in-one graphics presenter in the industry. The RG-100 builds rich, dynamic 3D visual images by integrating still images, text and logo files with a simple drag-and-drop mouse operation. The system can add music and other audio to the images, and collaborate with external lighting devices for a more dynamic display of multimedia contents. This new product meets all the requirements of customers who want to create and use multi media contents effectively for delivering their messages in easier and more cost effective ways.

With the RG-100, users can preview their images in full screen mode thanks to real-time rendering, can replay images instantly, and can set up daily and/or weekly schedules with the built-in Scheduler software.

“We are very pleased that Roland Corporation, a high profile electric instrument and image editing device provider, selected MontaVista Linux for its new featured product,” said Hitoshi Arima, vice president, Japan Sales, MontaVista Software Inc. “For this kind of device, which requires a reliable, high performance and feature-rich operating system, MontaVista Linux is an excellent choice because of its scalability, robustness, and flexibility. Product cycles continue to become shorter and time-to-market is ever more critical for device manufacturers. MontaVista Linux supports manufacturers such as Roland, by serving as a robust operating system, allowing them to continue rolling out new applications with consistently high quality.”
