Linux is powerful alternative for OS

“Despite Linux’s growing reputation, I’m overdue to give a first-hand report on how well it works. But that’s about to change. I recently ordered a set of Linux CD-ROMs and will soon be installing it.

Cost of the three Linux discs was only $12, a considerable savings over the $200 that Microsoft wants for its Windows XP Home Edition. (Actually, the Linux itself is free and can be downloaded over the Internet if you’ve got a fast connection and plenty of time to kill. The $12 that I paid was a modest fee for someone to copy Linux onto CD-ROMs and mail them to me.)”
