In Part 1 . . . the . . . Overview, we introduced you to the Linux Virtual Desktops. There, we noted that having virtual desktops is much like having up to sixteen different computers in one. You can open one or more programs in each virtual desktop.

Today in Part 2, this Linux Virtual Desktops Tutorial, we will add more virtual desktops to the configuration and open more than the thirteen windowpanes opened in the Part I Overview. We also will organize the arrangement of applications across the virtual desktops by tasks.

At the time the Figure 7 screenshot was taken, there were 27 windowpanes opened. But because they are spread over 14 virtual desktops, they all are on top. That is they are on top in their own virtual desktops. It’s pretty darn slick! If you have 27 windowpanes open in Microsoft Windows, you are going to have a cluttered mess!

If there were no other reason to switch from Microsoft Windows to GNU-Linux, the Linux Virtual Desktops would be more than reason enough to make the switch.

The screenshots for this tutorial were made using Mandrake Linux 10.0, Gimp 2.0, and the Konqueror browser and file manager. Check MozillaQuest.com for the full story and links!
