LinuxIT offers expert upgrade support to RHEL4

Ev Milker writes “LinuxIT, the largest Linux company providing independent systems integration and professional services in the UK, today announced that it endorses Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 4 (RHEL 4) after going through a period of rigorous testing. The company also published a special offer on expert upgrade support to Red Hat customers.

Linux deployment world-wide is growing at an ever increasing rate, and companies that make the decision to change to Linux expect more than just software. However, there is still a perception in the marketplace that professional services for Linux, such as consulting, training and support, are not readily available.

LinuxIT is working to counteract that perception, and offers Linux solutions that come with the appropriate level of support and service.

John McEntee, Upgrade Program Manager at LinuxIT, commented: “We recognise the likely difficulties for companies wishing to upgrade from RHEL 3 to version 4. The move might not always be straightforward, and companies will benefit from expert advice and support. Non-standard RHEL systems will require fresh installations, and even upgrades on unmodified systems will need support in case there is no system administrator available. LinuxIT offers a safe and smooth upgrade at heavily discounted rates, with on-site support when and where it’s needed.”

The move to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 is strongly recommended by LinuxIT. After rigorous testing and extensive results analysis, the company found that platform stability, usability and scalability have greatly improved compared to past releases. Advances in manageability and security have also been recognized. RHEL 4 is the first commercial product to deliver SELinux (security-enhanced Linux kernel), which enforces mandatory access control policies that confine user programs and system servers to the minimum amount of privilege they require to do their jobs. Performance of workloads that depend heavily on memory has been improved through virtual memory enhancements, and end-users can benefit from interoperable desktops.

McEntee added: “The majority of Linux expertise in the UK is sourced from LinuxIT, either direct or through one of our many partner system integrators. We are very excited about the prospect of migrating users to the latest version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. There is something in this version for everyone, from government bodies that will appreciate the addition of SELinux features, to financial organizations that will benefit from the performance improvements to every sub-system. LinuxIT is determined to make that migration as easy as possible for customers, and offers its expert upgrade support at a heavily discounted rate.”
