The LO newbie tests mouseless (midnight) commander

John Gowin writes “Jim Fuller, the Linux Orbit Newbie in residence shares his thoughts on the powerful command shell workhorse Midnight Commander. From editing files to updating and installing packages, Midnight Commander is one of Jim’s favorite “newbie” tools. Yes I said Mouseless Commander. Originally, Midnight Commander had no mouse support and was so named. Later on when mouse support was included, the developers went out and asked the users to vote on a name for the product, which is how it ended up being called Midnight Commander. Note that it had to have the initials mc as this is the two letter command used to execute the program.
