Lycoris announces AI2

31

Maple Valley, WA – Friday, July 30, 2004- – Lycoris, the leading provider of desktop Linux solutions for the consumer market, today announced that AI2, its revolutionary new application environment for Linux, will be made available exclusively in Desktop/LX 1.4. AI2 (A-I-squared), which stands for Advanced Application Integration Infrastructure, empowers both consumers and software vendors by bridging the gap between the Linux operating system and third-party applications.

“AI2 takes the tedium out of tight integration between application software and Linux-based operating systems,” commented Joseph Cheek, CEO and Founder of Lycoris. “Application developers can now gain the same high level of integration and usability for their products that was previously found only in other operating systems, all without requiring any changes to their code.”

AI2 allows software vendors to integrate their products with Desktop/LX without having to make any changes to their existing code base. All that is required are small AI2 integration scripts, which can be included on the product’s CD, posted on the company web site, or integrated directly into the Desktop/LX Update Wizard by Lycoris.

When customers install a third-party application on Desktop/LX, the AI2 system calls its software recognizers and automatically detects the new software. AI2 then optimally configures their Desktop/LX system the next time they log in – everything from menu entries to deep system-level changes – automatically and without any user intervention.

Best of all, there is no cost for obtaining AI2, nor is there a cost for updates or maintenance. All that is required is a valid license of Desktop/LX 1.4. Desktop/LX 1.4 is currently in final testing and is due to ship on August 16, 2004. In addition, both Desktop/LX 1.4 and AI2 will be shown in Booth 1483 at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo San Francisco, August 2-5, 2004.

White Paper: Desktop/LX 1.4 with AI2 and Netraverse Win4Lin 5.0 Workstation Edition

Lycoris has conducted an AI2 case study with Netraverse Win4Lin Workstation 5.0 Workstation Edition. Win4Lin is a program that allows for true Windows® compatibility by allowing Windows to be installed inside a Linux-based operating System. The White Paper shows the difference AI2 makes by contrasting Win4Lin Workstation on a standard Linux desktop with Win4Lin Workstation on Desktop/LX 1.4 with AI2.
